One TAB Sportsbet customer has been waiting six months to watch Brisbane Roar win the A-League Grand Final.

In October last year they placed $20,000 at $5 on the Roar to win back-to-back titles. They will pocket $100,000 if they are successful.

That is the result most are expecting with the Roar overwhelming favourites at $1.30. They are $1.72 to win the game in normal time.

Perth has struggled in recent times against the Roar; they have not won in their past six meetings. In those six games, they only managed to share the points on two occasions.

The Glory were not expected to be playing in the Grand Final, during the season they reached $26 to be crowned champions.

Shortly after opening markets on Sunday’s Grand Final we took $10,000 at $1.28 on Brisbane or a draw at the end of normal time.

One punter doesn’t believe there is any chance of an upset by GWS this weekend and has placed $1m on West Coast at $1.01 with Sportingbet Australia.

The punter stands to win $10,000 from risking his $1m but Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said he didn’t think the punter had much to worry about.

“It is very rare taking $1.01 looks a good bet but I think in this case the punter has actually got overs,” Sullivan said.

“West Coast have been brilliant in the opening weeks of the competition and GWS still have a long long way to go to be competitive at this level.

“It really does just look a matter of West Coast by how far and most are tipping plenty.

Sportingbet have West Coast $1.03 to win by 40+, $1.05 to win by 60+ and punters have to give up 101.5 start to get even money about West Coast.

Despite the improvement shown by the Gold Coast Suns throughout their first AFL season, they are unlikely to push for the finals any time soon, with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au installing them at $2.00 in the wooden spoon without GWS market.

With GWS out of the market, the Suns look likely to have another year of development and will start favourites ahead of Port Adelaide at $3.50.

The Brisbane Lions are also tipped to have a tough year and are next in the market at $4.00, followed by Melbourne at $11 and the Western Bulldogs at $16.

“GWS look likely to have the wooden spoon wrapped up before the season has even started. And even though the Suns showed a bit last year, we still think they may struggle for a while and look the most likely to be down the bottom with the Giants,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Shaun Anderson.

Online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au has installed champion sprinter Hay List as the $1.50 favourite for tonight’s Group 1 William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley, however, it’s been Buffering that the punters have warmed to.

Buffering is on the second of betting at $6.00 while Foxwedge has eased from $8.50 out to $9.00 with the Peter Snowden trained Beaded next at $15, after opening at $11.

“Hay List gave all these horses a stack of weight in the Newmarket and now meets them under the weight-for-age conditions so is by far and away the one to beat,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.

“In saying that, and despite meeting Hay List much worse off at the weights, there’s been some early interest in Buffering who has firmed from $8.00 into $6.00.”

Mid Summer Music has shortened into $17 with Lone Rock and Rekindled Interest priced at $19.

Adelaide’s win in the 2012 NAB Cup Grand Final is not expected to be a flash in the pan according to punters, with their odds of winning the 2012 flag firming from $41 to $26 with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au on the back of the pre-season competition win.

In a sign that they are expected to be more competitive this year they have also firmed from $2.00 to $1.70 to make the top 8.

“The Crows have all the making of a finals team and Sanderson has been impressive so far as coach. It doesn’t look like they can match it with the big teams just yet but after winning the NAB Cup punters have been all over them to make the finals and are now into $1.70,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Shaun Anderson.

While the Crows are the team everyone wants to be on the same can’t be said for Carlton, with the Blues drifting from $8.00 to $9.00 to win the flag after a winless pre-season.

“We aren’t giving up on them and they have been one of the best backed teams to win the flag, but their form has been scratchy and Juddy is lacking match fitness. So punters have cooled on them slightly.”

The GWS Giants are still massive underdogs at $14 to beat the Sydney Swans ($1.02) in their first ever game, but punters seem convinced that they won’t get smashed, with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au revealing that over 85% of all line betting has been under the 85.5 figure.

Set at $1.92 for over or below 85.5 points, GWS’s performance throughout the NAB Cup has seen the majority of betting support the Giants to stay within that margin.

In addition, fans continue to believe there is some value at $14 for the Giants to beat the Swans, with more than double the amount of bets being placed on GWS compared to Sydney.

“Even though the Suns got smashed in their first game last year, punters seem convinced that the Giants will be more competitive in round one, with the majority of line bets indicating that they won’t be totally blown away,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Shaun Anderson.

“It has been interesting that the Giants have had twice the amount of bets than the Swans. Whether that is a reflection of the Giants’ odds being too good to pass up rather than a sense of whether they can actually pull off an upset remains to be seen.”

Regardless of the support for the Giants to win in round one, they still look set for a long season, opening at $1.16 to win the wooden spoon, the shortest opening wooden spoon odds ever offered at sportsbet.com.au, a much shorter figure than the $2.10 Gold Coasted opened at last season to finish last.

The big money has arrived for Hay List in the Newmarket Handicap with Sportingbet Australia taking a pair of enormous bets on the champion sprinter.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said Hay List had been easy early in the week but as soon as he got out to $4.40, punters had unloaded.

“Punters were betting around Hay List early in the week with good money coming for Rain Affair and Bel Sprinter but punters are definitely back with the favourite now,” Sullivan said.

“We took a bet of $30,000 at $4.40 and another of $40,000 at $4.20 and punters are still backing him.

“He is the class runner in the race and punters clearly thought he got to the right price after drifting from $3.40 to $4.40 early in the week.”

Sullivan said that while Hay List was clearly the best backed, there had been money for a number of other runners in an extremely open race.

“Bel Sprinter, Rain Affair and Foxwedge have all been well supported, while there has also been money for roughies King’s Rose, Temple of Boom and Master of Design,” he said.

In other races at Warwick Farm in Sydney, Sportingbet Australia have taken a bet of $100,000 at $1.85 about Streama to win the Group 2 Patinack Farm Surround Stakes. The bet has seen Streama’s price crash into $1.65
