A League Round 5 Betting 2010
By Bernie Pollock - September 2, 2010
The start of the 2010 A league season has taken a lot of us by surprise with the early round results. Teams like Adelaide and North Queensland have been playing extremely well in the opening rounds. Perth and Queensland are also going great guns, with Melbourne Victory starting to hit their straps.
This week there are easy matches to predict, and two closer ones. Odds come courtesy of Centrebet Australia who get their odds up earlier than any other Australian bookmaker each week.
Central Coast Mariners vs Melbourne Victory
Since the Mariners won in round 1 they haven’t impressed much at all. The opposite can be said for the Victory though. They are going from strength to strength, and if they can find a good striking partnership until Archie comes back, they’ll be a real threat.
Mariners vs Victory Betting
Head to Head Odds
Central Coast Mariners: $2.65
Draw: $3.20
Melbourne Victory: $2.65
Tips and Predictions
The Victory should win this match away from home. The $2.65 you can get here is a great price. The Mariners will be without their playmaker Patricio Perez and will struggle to contain the Victory.
Prediction: Melbourne Victory win.
Melbourne Heart vs North Queensland Fury
The Heart will be well fired up after their controversial draw last week. They deserved to win that match, and will turn up to play against the Fury. North Queensland came crashing back to Earth last weekend against the in form Reds. They got the early goal but ended up losing 3-2.
Heart vs Fury Betting
Head to Head Odds
Melbourne Heart: $2.20
Draw: $3.30
North Queensland Fury: $3.10
Tips and Predictions
The Fury have been playing well of late, but I think they’ll begin to stutter a little now that they are coming off a loss and going to Melbourne. The Heart will be looking to put in a massive performance here, and they’ll be too good.
Prediction: Melbourne Heart win
Sydney FC vs Adelaide United
Sydney are still looking for their first win, while Adelaide are on top of the competition and surprising the rest of the A-league with their performances. I think this will be a tight match that could go either way.
Sydney FC vs Adelaide United Betting
Head to Head Odds
Sydney FC: $2.00
Draw: $3.40
Adelaide: $3.50
Tips and Prediction
I think Sydney are far too short here. Adelaide are the form team and Sydney are yet to win. Just because they are at home, it doesn’t ensure a victory. I think it will be a close encounter.
Prediction: Draw
Newcastle Jets vs Queensland Roar
The odds for this match are provided by Sportingbet Australia. I cannot see how the Jets go into this match as favourites, considering the form of the Roar. I think Queensland will be too good for Newcastle here.
Jets vs Roar Betting
Head to Head Betting
Newcastle Jets: $2.45
Draw: $3.30
Queensland Roar: $2.75
Tips and Prediction
The Jets are a stable sort of a team, but they simply don’t have a good enough team to challenge the contenders. It’s still only early in the season, but the Roar are on top of their game at the moment and I expect them to win.
Prediction: Roar win.
Perth Glory vs Wellington Phoenix
Both of the teams are playing well at the moment and I expect them both to feature in the 2010 A-league finals. Perth will be a dominant force once they get all their players on the paddock, while teams have consistently struggled to beat the Phoenix.
Glory vs Phoenix Betting
Head to Head Odds
Perth Glory: $1.80
Draw: $3.50
Wellington Phoenix: $4.25
Tips and Prediction
I expect Perth to have slightly the better of this encounter, but it remains to be seen if that will result in a win for them. I think the Phoenix can do enough here on the road to get a point.
Prediction: Draw
A-league Round 5 Best Bets
My best bets for this round are the Victory at $2.65 on Centrebet and the Roar at $2.75 on Sportingbet. Great bit of value in those bets as well.
