Sportingbet.com.au Australia Bookmaker Review
Sportingbet, which is owned by UK betting giant William Hill, is one of the most well-known bookmakers in Australia and offer many markets on sport and racing at home and abroad.
Sportingbet Australia was launched in 2003 by its UK-based parent company, which was founded as the Sportingbet Group in 1998. The company purchased Australian competitor Centrebet in 2011 which, with their combined clout, made them one of the biggest betting companies in Austraia.
Sportingbet Australia announced in March 2013 it was selling to William Hill. Soon after Hills bought out Tom Waterhouse and installed him as CEO of its Australian operations.
Vig is standard for the industry, generally 5-10 per cent depending on the type of bet you’re making.
Betting apps are available for Android, iPhone and iPad, and there is a mobile version of the website for all other devices. To download the correct app, or to visit the mobile website use the correct links above.
Layout & Interface at Sportingbet.com.au
Sportingbet rolled out its biggest website upgrade in years in March of 2014, with the sports and racing menus now across the top of the website, rather than on the left where it was in the previous version.
The removal of the left-hand side menu, where you chose sports, means there is more room in the centre of your screen. This allows a similar markets menu on the left which means you can can quickly, for instance, switch between Coleman Medal and the Brownlow Medal.
Now to place a bet you simply click on the odds next to what or who you want to punt on and it will be added to your bet slip. Your bet slip is on the right hand side and will have a red number on it after you have made one or more selections. You can click on the bet slip at any time where you can choose your bet type and finalise your wager,
Because you can place more than one bet at a time, your total expenditure and potential winnings are also displayed on the bet slip.
Sports, Horse Racing & Available Betting Markets
Sportingbet offer some of the most competitive sports markets around with AFL, NRL, A-League, Super Rugby, and various cricket leagues on our shores adequately covered. This does not mean Sportingbet neglect international markets with many betting options offered for the NBA, NFL, English Premier League and every other major soccer league from around the world. When there is a sporting event on, you can almost guarantee Sportingbet will offer a market.
Sportingbet also offer thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing from all TAB meetings in Australia. Every big race meeting around the world will also be covered by Sportingbet, with their odds on international races often some of the best around.
While Sportingbet obviously cover all of the major sports and racing events, they have also branched out into many novelty markets including betting on reality TV shows, politics and celebrity announcements, among others.
Minimum & Maximum Wagers Amounts
Most standard straight bets (singles) have minimum wager amounts of AUD $1. Horse & greyhound racing starts at $2 per bet, and some exotics start at $2 as well. Maximum bet amounts depend on the type of bet you’re making. These will range between $500 and $25,000.
Sportingbet Deposits & Withdrawals
One of the things we like about Sportingbet is that they they accept Paypal. If you’ve ever bought anything on Ebay, you already have a Paypal account. If you don’t have one, a Paypal account is easy to set up and then it’s easy to move your money back & forth between different online bookies and your bank. There are also plenty of other banking options available at Sportingbet, as you can see below.
The banking interface is simple, it blacks out the main screen and appears in the centre on a small floating window (see picture below) which is 100 per cent secure. Across the top of the panel there is the deposit options, which when seen, will be self explanatory. Some options are instant deposits (credit card, Paypal etc.) while others can take up to 48 hours (bank transfer).
Withdrawals at Sportingbet can take up to 48 hours, a standard length of time for a bank transfer in Australia.

Sportingbet is one Australia’s biggest bookmakers and there are reasons for this: it is well run, they have a strong reputation and they have respected figures in key posts.
Up until mid 2014 Michael Sullivan was the CEO of William Hill Australia, with Tom Waterhouse, who sold his eponymous bookmaker to Hills in the same year, taking over the top job.
The Sportingbet website is one of the best betting sites in terms of usability. It has changed its layout from vertical menus to horizontal and it has worked nicely, separating it from its competitors.
Sportingbet feature some of the most competitive markets out of all the big bookmakers in Australia, if you are a regular punter and like to get the best odds, you should have Sportingbet as one of the bookmakers you use.
We only promote online bookmakers we personally bet at, and this is one of the best options for Australian punters.
